There are many outdoor opportunities in Olathe. Miles of biking and walking trails are found throughout the city. Olathe also has several nature preserves that are popular with local Johnson County residents. The Prairie Center, located at 26235 West 135th Street, has 300 acres of nature to explore, including ponds, creeks, and walking trails.
Ernie Miller Park, at 909 N Highway 7, is another local favorite in Olathe. Ernie Miller Park has 3 miles of hiking trails traveling across prairies, streams, and forests, as well as an indoor nature center where kids can see live wildlife and learn more about nature. Olathe is also home to the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site which is the last working stagecoach stop along the Santa Fe Trail. Mahaffie offers living history activities and seasonal events.
Parks
Olathe has more than 30 parks, including Frisco Lake Park and Black Bob Park. Fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities can be found in at Lake Olathe Park. Lake Olathe Park has a swim beach, marina, Aqua Park (obstacle course on the lake), fishing pavilion, disc golf, nature playground and a spray ground for children to play and cool down during the summer. The College Boulevard Activity Center at 11031 S. Valley Parkway features an inclusive playground and an accessible ball field.

Johnson County Old Settlers is a yearly festival in early September that takes place in downtown Olathe. The Old Settlers festival is known for its great food, parade, arts & crafts fair, entertainment and carnival.
